While Beatty is delivering his powerful lecture to Montag about the evolution of the fire fighter and the state of HAPPINESS in the Fahrenheit 451 society, Mildred is busy cleaning. Montag is trying to listen to Beatty, but also trying to conceal the book he has under his pillow from his "wife."
Tell me about a time you have concealed something from someone. What did you conceal? Why were you concealing it? Explain.
One time, I was trying to conceal my Ipad from my brothers because I wanted to watch Netflix. But they kept asking for it and I kept saying I didn't know where it was and I hid it under my pillow of my bed while it was made. They still asked over and over again but they never found it. Thankfully they stopped asking and watched tv while I was upstairs watching Orange is the New Black on Netflix with the Ipad....
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand your frustration! Netflix is definitely worth concealing for yourself and I don't know what I would do without it. It's good you chose that sneaky hiding place to conceal it and that you were able to enjoy it uninterrupted in the end.
DeleteOne time I concealed my ipad from my mom because I was supposed to be studying for a test that was the next day. I thought to myself " hmmm I think I am already ready for this test so is there anything I can do to get ahead?" well no there wasn't anything else I could do so I thought to myself again" ima get my ipad" and I did. Btw I would only ever do that if I was 100% sure I was ready for the test....Im a good student I swear...
ReplyDeleteI do that too except I'm actually not ready for a test and I'm just way too lazy to get up and study. Instead, I just play on my Ipad and hide it form everybody else in my house.
DeleteNormally, I would say I’m a pretty open book. I don’t tend to be secretive or sneaky, except on certain occasions. An example of these situations would be when October 31st would roll around. In the past, when I would go trick or treating, it would be a rare opportunity to get piles and piles of free candy, all which was mine. It was a great sense of accomplishment, knowing I had worked my way door to door to rightfully earn that huge bag full of candy. All would be going smoothly until I would get home to await my candy-loving, too-lazy-to go- trick-or-treating parents and brother, hungrily eyeing my loot. From that moment on, I was on a mission: to conceal and stash my hard-earned Halloween candy. Every year I would get pretty creative, trying to find the best possible hiding spot so that my family wouldn’t steal it, and usually, it worked. I love my family, but this candy really meant a lot to me, which is why I concealed it from them year after year.
ReplyDeleteI do that every halloween too. If you haven't done it already, I used to hid it in my closet my parents never look in there!
DeleteI totally get how you feel my family does the same thing!
DeleteWhen I was younger, as a Christmas present my grandma gave me the newest thing that I just had to have, a "DS". I would play on it all the time before bed, and when it was bed time I had to leave it downstairs. Well, when I wasn't tired and wanted to play on my brand new DS I would crawl and roll on the floor and climb down then back up the stairs to retrieve it, as if I was James Bond (my dad loved those movies, and so did I). On the rare occasion that my dad had gone to bed early, thinking I was asleep, I would turn it off really quick and hide it under my pillow. After a while my dad caught on and made sure we were asleep, and check under my pillow, but I always found a new hiding spot.
ReplyDeleteI used to do the exact same thing with my IPod when I was younger! I used to want to play on it all night and when my parents would come upstairs, I would hide it under my pillow until the coast was clear and then would play on it some more! One time they caught me and took it downstairs, but I refused to let them have it and a few minutes later I was crawling down the stairs trying to get it back!
DeleteI was the exact same thing when I was younger, and I still am. Now the problem is my phone, but back then I was obsessed with those DS's too! I should probably learn to hold myself back...
DeleteRecently, I have been obsessed with this game on my phone. I play it every night while I'm in bed, while my parents think I am sleeping. I can't help it. It's so addicting! When my mom would come up to check on me to make sure I was sleeping, I would slip my phone under my bed covers and close my eyes. Once, my mom caught me and got really upset because it was a school night, it was late and, I was supposed to be sleeping. She took my phone away and didn't give it back for a while.
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing! I was watching this show on my iPod at night and my mom walked in and I pretended that I was not feeling well and could not sleep. She totally fell for it!!!
Delete-Grace Makinson
I do the same thing when its time for me to go to bed. Sometimes I just can't sleep and I slip my phone under my covers. However only then did I realise my mom could still see my phone. Woops! It sad that you got caught and had your phone taken away. Next time I hope that your mom doesn't see. :)
DeleteI always have a sweet tooth and am always steeling and hiding sweets from my parents that i took from the kitchen. My parents get mad because they want me to be healthier and eat less sugar. One time, when i was five years old, I took a whole bag of marshmallows and started eating them. At the time, my parents were outside. They came back inside so i sprinted upstairs with the marshmallows in my hand. I slipped on the stairs, fell and knocked out my tooth, I never tried to hid sweets from my parents again.
ReplyDeleteLol this is so accurate! Haha i always have to hide the sweets whenever you comeover! -kali catterall
DeleteI'm always hiding things from my little sister because we share a room I can't really tell her to get out, so anything personal I have to keep in a secret place. I usually hide things somewhere high so she can't reach them and most of the time it's my iPod, my makeup and any candy. Once I even had to hide my money because every day I would notice that when I came back from school my piggy bank would be open and in a different position. I asked her about it and she said she just borrowed it for a game, a game I found out later on was called putting-my-money- in-her-piggy-bank-and-keeping-it. She is so sneaky and curious which is why I have to hide most things from her.

Siblings can be wonderful at times, but they can also be a pain:/I can totally relate. My younger sister always get's jealous of the things I have and steals all of my stuff too. I end up having to keep everything on high shelves;)
DeleteWhen i was younger I used to have a diary and I recall my mom always dropping hints about things I had written in it! I knew she had been reading it so everyday after she dropped a hint, i'd hide it in a new place: under my bed, in my dresser, on the top shelf of my closet.. etc. One time I got into a big fight with my friend at school, and I really didn't want my mom to find out about it, so I hid my diary in a place"I'd never forget", unfortunately, I haven't found it since. Who knows? Maybe it's still hiding somewhere with my dramatic untold 3rd grade stories.
ReplyDeleteHa! I get what you mean! Moms are great and all but they can be a little pushy at times. Everyone is untitled to privacy, I mean a few small secrets never hurt anyone. I hope that you find your diary before someone else does! Wouldn't want it to fall into the wrong hands....;)
DeleteSomething that I usually try to conceal from my younger sister is anything sweet. She definitely has a sweet tooth and is always trying to get her hands on sweets. I can't deny, I am just like her, I love my sweets! Although, one difference between us is when I do get some candy, I like to save it in my "candy drawer" for a special occasion. I am constantly trying to hide that drawer from her because once she finds it, all my candy will be gone in a matter of hours!
ReplyDeleteSomething that i conceal would probably have to be soft drinks, I like buying those boxes of 12 cans for 3.33$ at couche tard but my parents always drink them and im always running out so quickly. What I do is now I hide the boxes in my shoe boxes so I have all those soft drinks to myself. I think if my parents knew about this I would probably not have any drinks left right now. - Dennis Mayuga
ReplyDeleteWhat a rebel
DeleteI do the same thing but at school. I bought a twelve pack of soft drinks at school and I always hide them in my locker to make sure no one can get any.
DeleteSomething that I conceal is my phone from my dad. The reason why I usually keep it from my dad is because I love watching YouTube and Twitch all night long. He usually gets mad at me in the morning when he finds out that I took it the night before, because he knows that I stay up all night long with it. That is why I conceal my phone from my dad at night because I can't live without watching videos and live streams.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest when I conceal something it is usually from my dad. Most of the time this is a group effort from my mom, sister and I. See my dad has a sweet tooth but he only eats candy or chips if they are in the house or lying around, he never really goes and deliberately buys junk food. I learned this the hard way when half of my Halloween candy “disappeared” a few years ago. I don’t eat all of my candy of course, but he takes all of the good stuff (like the full sized chocolate bars). So nowadays whenever my mom goes grocery shopping or my sister and I somehow manage to acquire candy we immediately stash it, and let me tell you we can get pretty crafty. We have hidden things anywhere from an ice cooler to the cupboard where we keep our phonebooks. Hopefully one day I will not have to hide candy from my dad but I honestly doubt it. Besides he still has never paid me back for all of that candy…
ReplyDeleteI tend to be a relatively honest person but there is one thing I always try to conceal. That precious item is, of course, chocolate. Between my brother, father and dog if I didn't hide my chocolate then it would be gone in a matter of seconds. I confess, I'm a chocoholic but my family is just insane! We almost never have chocolate in the house because if not then we'd all be HUGE! One time, for my birthday I got an enormous Toblerone chocolate bar, the good stuff! I foolishly left it in the cupboard and within two days my brother and father(my dog even stole a piece) had devoured it before I could even get any! I never did that again and that's why from now on I always hide my chocolate bars. I hope to one day not have to conceal my chocolate bars but that does not sound like any day soon...
ReplyDeleteI am in love with Halloween... Every single year I go trick or treating, (I don’t care how old I am) and I get loads and loads of candy. My parents always try to convince me to share my candy with my brother, but that obviously doesn’t happen. In result I always have to try and find different ways to keep it away from the rest of my family. Especially the kit kats. They’re super popular in my family so those are the ones that I usually have to hide at the bottom of a container or something... But despite my efforts, my dad usually ends up finding my candy and eating all the good stuff, so hopefully this year I’ll find a better spot to hide them.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happens to me every Halloween, that I have to hide my candy from my family. My brothers and I usually organize all of our candy and then trade to try and prevent this issue but I still find missing candy. I also try hiding my candy but my brothers always seem to find it. I hope you find a better spot this year to hide your candy!
DeleteWhen my sister and I were younger, we always used to fight over the TV. We had two but this one was bigger. If I stopped watching TV and took a break I would hide the TV remote or take it with me so she wouldn't get it. We used to do it to each other but I was always more successful at hiding the remote. When she would find the remote I used to get mad and I would then go to the smaller TV.
ReplyDeleteMy siblings and I had the exact same problem and sadly enough we still have that problem. To this day we still find ourselves hiding the remote form each other!!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was in 5th grade, the book ''the hunger games'' was beginning to become popular. One my friends started reading it and he said it was AMAZING. At that time I was not a big reader but for some reason I really wanted that book. I asked my parents for it and they said no because it is too violent. I did not take no for an answer. There is a bookstore relatively close to my house so when my parents had a meeting, I immediately biked to the bookstore and got the book. One night, I was reading the book when my mom walked in. I immediately hid the book and I told her that I was watching a movie on my Ipod. She then asked me to give her the Ipod but it was on the other side of my room. My mom then figured it out and took both my Ipod and the book.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like to conceal from other people is candy. Whenever I buy a box of candy at my house my brother always finds it and it’s gone by the next day. What I usually do is buy a lot of candy and hide it in the secret spots in my room (the closet) so far my brother has not found it. My sisters also do this to my brother and me, they always have more candy then we do so my brother and me try to find theirs and eat it, but they are really good at hiding it.
ReplyDeleteOne object that I have concealed from someone is a box of cereal from my brothers. My mom had bought one of my favourite types of cereal and being a family of six, I knew it would all be gone by the next day. I therefore took the box and hid it under my bed. Every time I wanted it, I would pour some into a bowl in my room and bring it downstairs to eat in the kitchen. If my brothers wondered what I was eating, I would say Rice Krispies or something, a cereal we did not really like. My mom had known what I had done so she would just play along. I just told my brothers about the cereal this week which I probably should not have done because now they will most likely be looking under my bed once in a while.
ReplyDeletehaha thats so funny! I also do that with things i love such as gum, candy, and all my favourite kinds of food i like! but it was good that you told your brothers that you hid it but now they know your trick!
Deleteone object i have concealed from people is my gum because a lot of people like to chew gum especially in class so when I have gym, I would always tell people that I got my gym from someone else when it is actually mine. I conceal my gum because when I give it one person, many other people come to me and ask for gum, then once I give it to everyone, there is none left. So I usually just tell people that it's not mine and that it's one of my friends.
ReplyDeleteHaha that's really funny! I love to keep gum to myself also. I hate when people ask for it like you explained, because then theres no more for yourself!
DeleteSomething I usually try to conceal, is my sister's clothes. My sister and I have a great relationship, but when it comes to our privacy and belongings, we're 100% confidential. She never lets me wear her clothes, and I hate when she wears mine. So sometimes, when she's in the shower, I sneak in really fast and take a shirt I like and hide it in one of my drawers. I really like her clothes because it's a completely different style than mine, and I find she has really good taste.
ReplyDeleteMy sister steals my clothes all the time.
DeleteThis one time in kindergarten I was playing with some fake money in class and I was keeping it in my pocket so I could have both my hands free. After the bell dismissed the class I forgot to put the money back so later that night I found the money in my pocket and I was freaking out because I thought my parents were going to get so mad at me for steeling it, so I hid the fake money under my bed all weekend. On Monday I put the fake money in my bag and went to school. The first chance I got, when no one was looking I put it back and that was the end.

When I was younger, I went on vacation. I was very rebellious at times and while we were walking around the town, we stopped at a gift shop. I walked in and looked around the store. Something caught my eye and I really wanted to have it. It was a shell from the beach that they were selling. I observed it thoroughly and saw no price tag so I looked around the store and saw no cameras so I took my chance. I stole a shell that was originally 2$ but I thought that was expensive . I did not tell my mom until she saw me holding it a long while later, she demanded I bring it back so I hid it and now to this day I haven't found it. I didn't tell my mom because I knew she would be mad at me and I didn't want to be in trouble.
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! I hope you find the shell :')
DeleteAlmost every single day I conceal my cell phone in class. Most teachers hate cell phones because they think that every student will text their friends during class but honestly I only keep my cell phone on me to check the time. I hate not knowing the time during class. Some teachers talk all class and sometimes it can be very boring and most of the classes in our school have no working clocks. If there were working clocks in every class I would probably leave my cell phone in my locker.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem and I always have to conceal my phone in my pencil case, etc.. even if the only reason I have it is to tell time.
DeleteI remember one of the first times i tried to conceal something was when i was in the third grade. I was really obsessed with hannah montana at the time I had just bought a hannah montana book and microphone duo from scholastics. I used to sing lyrics fom the book everynight before i went to bed. I remember that year i was going to mexico for vacation and really did not want to leave the microphone at home. For some reason i thought my mom was going to be mad at me for bringing it but decided to bring it anyways. I was so nervous that my mom was going to find it and then when we got to the hotel room she found it while we were unpacking. She did not even get mad she just asked me why i brought it and i told her that i could not go a day without singing into that microphone. That is one of the first times i remember trying to concel something. -kali catterall
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was younger I had tried to conceal something from my parents. I had tried to conceal a 50% I had gotten in school because I did not want them to be mad and disappointed in me, because they put a lot of pressure on academic success. I had earlier told a school mate of my grade because he had gotten a similar one, but I had not told him my intentions of not telling my parents. So when i went to IGA with my parents, i had saw him there an he asked my right in front of my parents what their reactions to my grade had been. In that moment, i had wanted to tackle him to the ground and shove a watermelon in his mouth to stop him from saying anything more.
ReplyDeleteI hid something from my brother not long ago. We just got a new cat cad he came with lots of toys, one of those toys were a laser pointer. My brother loved playing with it probably even more that the cat did but it was really annoying hearing the "clicking" noise that it made when you pressed the button to turn it off and on. I put it in one of my pant pockets this first attempt was not very successful but i did not give up.

One thing I conceal all the time are cookies. Everyone in my family loves cookies, especially oreos and chocolate chip,so whener my mom buys them they are eaten in a day. So to make sure I actually get some I usually hide a box of cookies under my bed. That way whener I want cookies I can have some without fighting for them.
ReplyDeleteI find myself always hiding my money from my siblings. They love to help them selves to a five, ten or twenty dollars bill here and there. They always tell me that they will pay me back but lucky for them I always seem to forget to ask them to. When i finally remember how much money they took of mine they conveniently forget that they ever took any and don't believe me. So in the end I am left wit no money that i didn't even spend. So now I take it upon my self to hide my money in my shoes and behind a vent in my wall on the floor!! Now when they ask me for money I can tell them I don't have and when they go looking they will not even find a dime!
