My parents always tell me stories of when my siblings and I were younger. I have so many I could never choose a favorite. One of my favorites is from when I was 3 or 4 years old. I didn't have much hair as a baby, and my brother, who is younger than me, liked to grab things. My parents told me he always used to grab my hair and my sister's hair in his hands super tight, pull and he would not let go. My mom says we would be screaming and he would hold on with his chubby little hands while my parents tried to get us free. They said that one time they actually had to cut our hair to get us out because he would never let go and his fingers would hold our hair so tight. Another story my parents would tell us is that my sister and I loved to dress up as ballerinas so my brother (being younger) copied us. His name is Sam and my mom would always tell me "Grace you are very graceful". So my brother went up to my mom and asked "Mom am I samful?" and that always makes us laugh. As a family we like to watch "Baby Movies" which are home videos from when we were younger, and all the videos and stories are so funny I want my parents to keep telling them because I never want to forget those memories from my childhood. Grace Makinson
Those are really cute stories! My parents also have some baby movies and I absolutely love watching them because what you said is so true about never wanting to forget your childhood.
Oh did she ever love to tell stories! One of my favourite childhood stories were when my mum used to tell me about her rabbit that she had as a kid. His name was Tuffy. She used to tell me stories of how he would escape his cage and get into the cupboards and go through all the food. There were other time he would escape and she wouldn't be able to find him and then a day or two later he reappear in the weirdest places imaginable. As a kid my mum had a bunch of these little stories and for some reason they would always keep me amused.
Childhood stories are some of the best things in life. Sitting down with your family and laughing about good times are those little moments that you look back on and realize the importance of them. For me, some of my favourite childhood stories surround funny things I used to say. For example, my family was once going on a trip, and they told me about it, so I was really excited even though I wasn’t really sure what was happening. They said we were leaving tomorrow, so I immediately replied, “Is it tomorrow today?” with the cutest smile on my face, and my parents laughed. They tried to explain to me what tomorrow was, and I mostly understood, but the following day, just to be sure, I asked the same question, and finally it was! Those kinds of stories make me feel happy and young again, sort of like transporting me back temporarily to my childhood, and I will always cherish them.
That is so cute and young kids do typically have problems with time, (I sure did)! I completely agree that those types of stories sort of bring you back to the past and make you feel young.
My favorite childhood story … Well to be perfectly honest when I first read the blog description I thought it was supposed to be about a book but, oh well! So mine is not so much a story but, a video, so yes it is captured eternally, which can be both a bad and good thing. In the video its winter and my dad has the camera pointed at our house. We had made a toboggan hill and both my sister and I were out side. I must have been around 3 and my sister 1. So, we are at the top of the toboggan hill and I lie down then she lies on top of me and we slide down the hill. The funny thing is I don’t seem to remember being mad at being used as a human toboggan, go figure? Anyways that video can always put a smile on my face whenever I see it or someone tells the story.
There are many stories from my childhood that I hope that I will never forget but there is one however that I just love hearing, it never fails to put a smile on my face! One day a long long time ago my cousins were coming into town and my brother and I were just so excited. As soon as they got there we started to play and do whatever kids do, and at night (it was only around 7 o'clock) we started a movie. It wasn't even a very funny movie but I just remember laughing at everything! Once the movie was done we went upstairs and started to play a 'Bennett original' game (it was basically tag). We played for like 2 hours and all I really remember that night was staying up until 10:30 for the first time and just having the time of my life! To me, it is memories like those that I will never forget, I still even remember the rules to our game!
There are many stories from my childhood that I can still remember to this day, some bad and some good. One of my favorite memories would probably be going to my old friend Caitlin's birthday party. She lived more towards the country and she had vast land surrounding her house, which made it possible for her family to collect maple from their many maple trees. During her party we played and played in the snowy forest and at the end, her parents brought out the maple syrup they had made. They put it in the snow with a wooden stick through it, and once it cooled it made for a delicious snack. To this day, I can still envision the maple syrup and how amazing it tasted.
A story that I find really interesting is the one when I first started talking. My family and I were on vacation in North Carolina. I was 10 months old and it was the summer of 2001. Our rental how was in front of a highway and I was sitting outside with my family and I was watching all the cards go past the house. All of a sudden I said the word “car”. It was my first word ever and my parents were really surprised because apparently that’s early for a kid to talk, and that’s why I talk so much!
My favorite baby story was when I ws about 4 years old. My neighbor was babysitting my siblings and I while my parents were out. After a few hours, she could find me anymore so she started looking everywhere around the house and still couldn't find me. She looked in the basement, the closets, the backyard and there was no sigh of me. She gathered all of the neighborhood together to help look for me. She was about a minute away from calling the police when my brother pinted me out. I was sleeping underneath the kitchen table the whole time! She was so relieved that they found me safe and sound! -Elisabeth Laflamme
My favorite childhood story my parents use too read to was "Goodnight Moon". I could listen to that story over and over again. This book describes a room, while a little bunny going to bed. I had this book memorized, I was then able to read the book to my parents. My parents read this to me, then to my brother and now they read it to my little sister.
My favourite story about me and why some people call me Jesus is because when my mother was pregnant, she was told by a doctor that I was dead. Although, my grandfather was a doctor and he checked my mother to see if I was still alive. He concluded that I was still alive and I was perfectly healthy. My mother automaticly switched hospitals and the rest of her pregnancy went well. That doctor was arrested a couple of months later because he killed many babies by telling the mothers that they were dead. During the treatment of when he they would remove babies from a mother, the baby would then die and nobody would know the truth. But I am alive and well :P
As a child I was told many stories that I loved, but the one that stands out the most to me is one that's about me. One time when I was 7 years old during the summer, when I used to still live in Chicago, my dad asked me if I wanted another dog when we already had two rescues. So, obviously I said yes, except my dad was keeping it a secret from my mom. The when we went downtown to the south end (ghetto) where one of my dad's customers lived, because he renovated their house, and we went to pick the dog up who was about 4 months old. The people who owned him wanted to train him as a fighting dog but that wasn't working out for them, which is why we rescued him because he wouldn't even live past 1 fight. When we brought him back to our house, my mom still wasn't home, and I decided to play with all 3 of my dogs. Then when I was playing with the puppy, who still had his baby teeth, bit on my right ear lobe and pulled one way while I pulled the other, and well it's pretty obvious what happened next, it ripped. Then I ran to my dad, not crying because I didn't even feel it ripped I jut felt blood dripping onto my shoulder. Finally after finding out that my ear was ripped I told my dad "Well, I guess mom wont let us keep the dog now." and then I let go of my ear and it just started pissing out more blood, but we went to the hospital right away and got it stitched up. Then about 2 weeks later my dad flew up to Montreal and gave it to my aunt, who still has him, except now instead of being an aggressive dog he is now the biggest lap dog you will ever see. That's my favorite childhood story.
My favorite childhood memory I remember is when I went to the Parc Safari with my dad and sister. When I was younger, My favorite activity was seeing animals. I would go to the Biodome almost every single week but I always wanted to see more exotic animals, like the ones in the books i read. So, when my dad agreed to take us, it was a big deal to my sister and I. I remember it being a really hot, beautiful day. I sat in the front seat as we drove through the parc observing the animals. My dad always tells me the huge smile I had on my face while i looked at the huge giraffe. I kept poking my head through the roof of my car to get a better look at the animals. This is one of my favorite memories because i was so happy and had an amazing time spent with my favorite people!
My favorite childhood memory also has to be my funniest memory ever and I'm not even the main character! It must have been my sisters 7th birthday or so, and it was HUGE! And I mean like invite all the neighbourhood kids, and all of her school friends, and even just about my entire family. There was everything to do, and you could not possibly get bored. Some people were in the pool, some were getting their nails done and some were on the bouncy house. Then the piñata came out. There were kids lined up from my front yard all the way around it, but still nobody was able to break the piñata. So my grandma grabs the stick, and she's like alright no one else can break it, let me try. Of course you have to blindfold the people and spin them around before they hit, well I guess my grandma got a little tipsy and she accidentally hit my sister. My sister wasn't badly hurt or anything, but when you see your older sister get hit with a stick on her birthday, it's hilarious!! I even think I laughed at her.
One of my favorite childhood stories was when I was in Ontario and I went tobogganing with my cousins. There were 4 of us in all and it was a lot of fun. I remember this specifically because it was just so much fun. I think I was 6 years old. I don't remember a lot from that age but this is something that I still sometimes think about nowadays. It was just a really happy day for me.
There is a really funny story that I like to tell from when I was younger. When it was Christmas or Easter, my cousins from Toronto would come and we would meet up at my grandparent's house. My grandma loves to spoil us and would buy us all the candy and chocolate possible. There is one thing she would let us do that I can't believe at all. She had these two huge jars filled with sugar and she would give my cousins and I giant spoons and we would take handfuls of it and eat the sugar. It tasted amazing and I would get so hyper and looking back to those memories always makes me laugh.
I have a really bad memory and can't think very far back but still to this day i remember a lot about my trip to Disney land and universal studios back in 2006. I remember being so excited to go there for the first time I couldn't wait, when we arrived we walked and went to a comedy show (for kids) and many different rides. Unfortunately being 6 years old I couldn't go on some rides I really wanted to go on such as "mummy". Later on we went to see the castle and I met the princesses and walked inside and for 10 minutes I got lost, but I didn't even notice. I found my mom right outside and then the next day we went to universal studios and it was amazing. I saw a 4D Shrek movie, back to the future rides etc. i had so much fun i would love to go back!
That honestly sounds so fun! I just got completely taken back to my trip to disneyland in 2007. Wow what a crazy effect words could have on the human mind!
As a kid, my mother would read me lots of books but by far, my favorite book out of all of them, was Over in the Meadow. Ever night before I would go to bed, I would ask my mom to read it to me. Sometimes I would ask her to read it to me 3 times before I would fall asleep. I believe that the reason I loved this book so much was because it rhymed and my mom would sing it to me. The book was about different animal mothers with more and more kids. For example it would be a mother crow with three kids or a mother lizard with eight kids. I still have this book in my basement but I have not read it in a while.
My mom always tells me this story where when I was about 4 years old, my brother and I went to the same daycare. Back then, my brother and I had each others back on everything. So, I saw my brother and this girl fighting, but my mom never knew what it was about. So apparently, I went running up to my brother and started hitting the girl also. So basically my brother was kicking her and I was punching. That's all my mom knows but I find this such a funny story on how close my brother and I used to be and that I beat a girl up with my brother.
My mom always mentions this story because she said It’s the story of how I developed this attitude and my mouth. One day I was 5 years old and we were in music class and the teacher had a pair of red sticks and we got a pair of green sticks for everyone in the class. The teacher told us when she raised her sticks we had to stop hitting them together since they were red, because red usually means to stop. That day she had forgotten her red sticks at home so she just took a green pair and when she would raise them no one would stop. This teacher had a really mean reputation and none of the parents liked her. When she saw that no one was stopping she started yelling at us, and me being me with my mouth I yelled out to her in my little voice “miss you told us red means stop, not GREEN! Your should have red sticks if you want us to stop!” All the parents at the same time all smiled and were all thinking, “finally! Someone spoke up to this teacher” Similar to what happens today with some of my other teachers.
One of my absolute favorite childhood stories was when my family on my dad’s side would gather at my grandfather’s house on Friday nights. All of the kids would go down to the basement where there was furniture, luggage and other mysteries waiting to be discovered. What would happen was the older kids would sit at the stairs by the door in the basement and turned off the lights while the younger kids (like me) would run around screaming and throwing stuff at each other. We would find stale gum and whip it at each other or hide under broken chairs that had holes in them. It would be boys vs girls and someone would always end up hurt. Although this game was very violent, it was so much fun and when my grandfather moved out of his house I think all of the kids missed this game the most.
I have heard so many interesting stories throughout the years. My favourite childhood story is definitely the one about how i got my name. When i was first born i was actually named ariel after the disney movie. About after 30 minutes of being born, both my parents decided that that name just did not suit me. Even though they felt unsure about the name, they didn't have an idea about another name so they just kept it as ariel. The next day i was in the hospital room with my mother and a friend of hers brought some flowers. What makes these flowers special is that they were zantedeschia aethiopic flowers, more commonly known as calla lilies. This is where my mother got the idea to name me kali. Im very glad she did because i personally hate the name ariel and i love that my name is spelt with a k because it is very unique.
One story I could listen to over and over was Too Many Pumpkins. It was a book about and old lady that had so many pumpkins in her yard that she cook them all into pies and cookies. That was tge book that my mom would read to me. But if it was my dad reading to me, he would always read me Topolino which is an Italian comic book with Mickey Mouse. I loved it when he read that to me but I would always make him translate almost everything to English because I never understood. I'm pretty sure I eve still have some of those old comic books.
I have heard so many stories of when I was younger, but the one I can't stop laughing at, is from when I was three years old. I spoke a lot when I was around three, but I was very selfish. Everything was about me, myself and I. (I'm not like that anymore). My mom told me about the number of times we would have to get ready for bed and she would go up the stairs before I do. I used to get mad because I wanted to go up the stairs first. Being the stubborn child that I am, I refused to go upstairs even after the number of times she called my name. I still refused to go upstairs. She knew that the only way to get me up there was for her to come back down and to let me go up first. She knows how stubborn I am and she knows that I could've gone the whole night without going upstairs. This story makes me laugh so much because it shows me how stubborn I was at such a young age.
I have a lot of halarious child hood stories, although most are very embarrassing! One of my Favorite childhood stories is when I was about 2 years old, my four siblings and I would all have a bath together. I was still not the best at using the potty so I would always poop in the bathtub! My dad would sit me on the toilet for five minutes before he would put me in the bath and I would have too pinky promise him that I did not have to go to the bathroom and that I would not go poop in the bathtub! Sadly the minute I got into the bath tub my eldest sister would be yelling emergency emergency evacuate the bathtub Meghan did it again. So every time I had a bath with them I would always sit on the toilet and complain that I didn't have to go potty and then my dad would put me in the tub and what do you know I would pop again! So my dad had enough so it happened that I would be left having a bath by myself and my sisters and brother would have one when I was done!! I find that story very embarassing but very funny because it really shows my families personality! My brother would always think that my poop was a bath toy and my sister kayla would yell at me and Kellie would be like my mom and tell everyone what to do!! It's an embarassing story but I never get tired of hearing my dad tell me it!!
I remember many stories from when I was a child some good some bad but my favourite childhood memory would definitely be when I went to Disney Land. I really enjoyed my time over there and had lots of fun going on the rides and seeing all the people dressed up in costumes. I also visited my aunt who lived there and we also went to Universal Studios which was also pretty cool. But I don't remember every single detail but I know that I had a really great time and would definitely go again.

For example it would be a mother crow with three kids or a mother lizard with eight kids. I still have this book in my basement but I have not read it in a while.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always tells me this story where when I was about 4 years old, my brother and I went to the same daycare.
ReplyDeleteWow madi such a rebel! I couldn't picture you doing that at 15.
DeleteMy mom always mentions this story because she said It’s the story of how I developed this attitude and my mouth.
ReplyDeleteOne of my absolute favorite childhood stories was when my family on my dad’s side would gather at my grandfather’s house on Friday nights.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a funny story! I love spending time with my cousins too and we would play some pretty interesting games as well!!
DeleteI have heard so many interesting stories throughout the years.
ReplyDeleteOne story I could listen to over and over was Too Many Pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteI have heard so many stories of when I was younger, but the one I can't stop laughing at, is from when I was three years old.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of halarious child hood stories, although most are very embarrassing!
ReplyDeleteI remember many stories from when I was a child some good some bad but my favourite childhood memory would definitely be when I went to Disney Land. I really enjoyed my time over there and had lots of fun going on the rides and seeing all the people dressed up in costumes. I also visited my aunt who lived there and we also went to Universal Studios which was also pretty cool. But I don't remember every single detail but I know that I had a really great time and would definitely go again.
