To me, the play was a mix of both positives and negatives. What was good about it in my beliefs was the fact that while weird at times, it was quite entertaining. All the actors were really into it and the music/effects were all well put together. That being said, I found the plot extremely confusing and the story lacking a purpose, and it was a bit too weird for my liking at times. Despite some flaws, I believe that this performance was among the most unique adaptations of Shakespeare's plays and was indeed a play that I am glad I saw.
I think the play was really well done. The actors were really good at interacting with the audience and were funny as well. The play was kind of hard to understand at some points but overall I understood the concept of the play. The actors were really good and funny. It must have been hard for them to play more than one character but they were able to pull it off. The actors also made really good references to modern day things such as music and other things. I really enjoyed the modern twist. Overall, the play was really well done and funny!!! Grace Makinson
I really enjoyed this play by the Montreal Shakespeare Company. The actors were both, comical and versatile. It is quite impressive that some can play up to 3 different roles in the same play. I have never read the Tempest so it was very entertaining for me to experience a new piece of art for the first time in such a unique way. I like how they insert current elements of pop culture into their dialogue. I find it allows a younger audience to enjoy Shakespeare and it modernizes the old English to keep the audiences attention. Also with the audience participation in the play it was a great way to keep the contact and interest of the audience as well. I liked how the story line was split 3 ways that all eventually coincided with each other. And I found it very original that they started off the play with a see-through screen as a set. Overall this play was filled with comedy, drama and some very good acting.
You make a good point about how much talent it requires to play 3 different roles and I have to agree with you on the fact that the acting was very good.
I Definately think that the play was performed very well. The actors had tons of energy and the effects such as the lights, smoke and music were nice touches to the setting of the play but I found it to be a little weird. I must admit that I laughed a lot during the play but most of the time when I was laughing it was because I was so weirded out by what the actors were doing. But they preformed the play really well. In conclusion I found the actors and effects really good but the play in general was a little odd but it was entertaining.
I liked the play, I thought it was different and a nice twist on Shakespeare. But in my opinion, since I didnmt actually know what the original play was about, I found it hard to understand what was going on most of the time. But it was really funny with all the modern twists on it which made it a bit easier to understand. Overall the play was very well performed and I really liked it.
Overall I found that the play was amusing but I think the effects could have been a bit better especially with their props that they used. I found it a little hard to understand because I didn't know what the tempest story was about in the first place, which was my fault but I think they could have given us a small summary at the beginning to fill us in. Another criticism I have is that It was was too long, to the point where I started getting tired at the end. The play in its entirety was amusing and funny, and I did enjoy it.
I didn't really like the play. To me, It felt like the play was geared towards younger audiences because of the type of slapstick humour used in the play. Also the choice of soundtrack was very predictable after awhile. Another thing I'd like to mention is that I didn't really understand what was going on with the plot most of the time, I found that the play didn't have much flow. One thing I liked was the use of audience in the play. Overall I didn't enjoy the play and I would not recommend it to friends or family.
I felt this play had some positive and negative aspects to it. On the negative side, the plays humor was childish, and I don't think it connected very well with me. Secondly, the props and "magic" were pretty bad, when they used "magic" to dim the lights, it wasn't synchronized. Also, the props seemed cheap and I felt they could have added more detail to them. On a brighter note, I found the characters individual performance fantastic especially Ariel, the spirit. She added a sarcastic aspect to the play which I enjoyed. I also liked the improvisation used during the play, especially Ferdinand, he handled the situations very well. Overall this play wasn't there best performance, but I still enjoyed watching it even when it became a bit confusing.
I liked the play, but it wasn't the best. I liked the acting a lot, the characters were interesting and kept the story alive. However I thought the plot was really confusing. I didn't understand it at all. I thought it was amusing, and fun, even though the humour was a little on the childish side. I like how they us the audience in the play, I find it adds a fun and unpredictable element to the performance.
I generally did not enjoy the play. I didn't really understand the story to be honest, or the ideas. Shakespeare is really confusing to me, and changing the type of language to modern, didn't help. The props seemed really cheap, and I didn't really feel any connections. However, the characters were very good and funny! I was impressed by they're amazing skills of expression, memorization and humour, although it was a little bit cheesy at times. I also noticed a lot of improvisation which was pretty cool.
To be honest I found the play weird and confusing. I didn't like how each actor played many different characters because I got really confused of who was who. I also didn't like how the background never changed from each scene because that would have made it easier for me to picture the story in my mind. I liked how they used a lot of audience communication because it kept everyone interested. I found one of the guy actors a bit creepy. Some of his costumes were weird and his humour wasn't that funny. Even though they translated the story, I wish they would have explained what was going on more during the beginning. Other then that the acting was really good and I liked the music they used and the fact that the guy had a playlist going with his life.
Considering the fact that I had never seen, or heard of the play "The Tempest" it had a pretty good story line. On the other hand, it was very confusing right at the beginning. I didn't really know what was going on, and was generally lost. I do feel that the modern twist on the play was quite entertaining (and amusing) at times, and involving the audience into the production, kept us awake and happy. Overall I was happy to watch the play, though I was a little bit lost it was funny, and that makes up for it.
I thought they put together a great play considering how much work it is to modernize a Shakespearian script and make it interesting for the audience. They also know how to add in modern jokes and use a lot of Allusion, referencing to stuff our generation is into or knows about. I thought they captivated the audience as usual and enjoyed themselves while doing so. My only problem with the play would be that I hadn't heard of the tempest and therefore got kind of confused with the plot and started mixing up some of the characters because the actors were playing a few at a time. Overall I thought the play was great and the acting was great. There aren't many actors that make such an effort to include the audience in their performance, and I find that that has a tremendous affect on keeping the audience awake.
Overall I really enjoyed yesterday's play. Normally I don't really enjoy shakespeare because I find it a bit boring, but they found a way to tweak it just the right way to make it interesting. It was really funny and I liked how they incorporated the audience into the show. They managed to turn something that I would usually find bland, into something entertaining and fun!
I really liked the play the tempest! I thought that the actors were all very good and they were all very funny as well! I thought the scenery was very well done and that their costumes were very good! I think that I would have enjoyed the play a bit more had I read the story before hand! I would get a little lost at some points during the play but in the end it all made sense! I never got bored during the play because they would always crack a joke here and there which helped me stay interested and helped me follow along! I love that they perform the play in modern day english instead of in Shakespeare's language! Overall I had fun watching the play and I know it will benefit me if I ever try reading the play because I now know the story!
I thought that the play we saw Monday was good and bad. I say that because it had a lot of ups and downs through out the play. For example when Dennis went up the second time and wasn't supposed too, because when they said his name and made it look like he was meant to go back up. But, something that I did like was how they covered up and kept the play rolling when he went up unannounced. One last thing that I did't like about it was how much they broke the forth wall and what they did, like when on of the actors came and climbed over everyone, I felt that that was a little too much. That's what I thought about the play.

I personally did not really like this play. The main reason was because their jokes were not really funny. It was jokes that you only laugh because everybody else is laughing. For example, the discipline joke, it made no sense whatsoever. But people would still laugh because it seems like something you should laugh at. The plot was good and well modernized but the characters got very confusing. The fact that they were reusing people really messed me up.
I thought the play was a little boring to be honest. There were a good few parts where we all laughed, but I didn't think anything more of it. The characters were extremely confusing and the story was a little over the place too. Modernizing the play for our sake was a smart idea, but modernizing plays from shakespeare won't always work. You have to find just the right play to perform in front of crowds. In my opinion, they could've done way better with this play, and they could've even have chosen a better book.
I found the play "The Tempest" to be quite funny! The actors really got into their characters. They had different characters to play during the production, they had a different voice for each character and their personalities were complete different. I also liked how they incorporated the audience into the play and improvised some of the parts. I found that the play was really well rehearsed and that when they asked a member of the audience to come up they were prepared for the unexpected.
I enjoyed the Shakespeare play from Monday. Throughout the entire play, I had no idea which play we were watching therefore it was a little bit confusing for me. I think what made the play better was that the characters interacted with the audience and they modernized the play with the language used and the music. What I liked when they interacted with the audience was that they brought someone up. I thought it was hilarious. I also found it funny when they kept screaming "discipline!" I think this kept the audience interested in what was going on. I also liked when they played music because I was able to sing along. I think I liked the other plays a little bit more because I actually knew the play because I had read it or heard a lot about it. Although I liked the previous plays more, I still thoroughly enjoyed this one.
I found it really entertaining but I prefer the ones they did from previous years. I also really enjoyed the music and effects, especially the lighting and the smoke machine!

I agree! The actors were really funny and sarcastic which made the play a whole lot more interesting.
