Blog 52 - Monday, May 11, 2015

There will only be ONE (1) blog this week!

Aside from the obvious: CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS, MARCH BREAK, SUMMER HOLIDAYS, PED. DAYS, LONG WEEKENDS, 2:25, RECESS and LUNCH - tell me about something you enjoyed this school year.  Was there a class, a project, an activity or something you enjoyed?

Explain.

  1. One thing that I really enjoyed this year was the movie trailer project in enlish class. I have never done anything like that before and it was really fun. Plus it made me so much closer with my friends. The best part was actually filming it because we got to go outside and roam around. At the same time the outtakes were so funny and I had a blast. Even though it did take a lot of effort to make it was still a nice experience and by far the best project this year.

  2. This year I really enjoyed POP (Personal Orientation Project) class, which is always in the computer lab. In this class we learn hands on about the different possibilities for our future, from university, to careers, to budgeting money. There are so many reasons why I really enjoyed POP. Firstly it is entirely project based so I can manage the projects and not be surprised with tests and quizzes. I do really well with organization and POP class allows me to decide when I want to work on certain projects. Lots of my friends are also in my class so I can talk to them and do my work at the same time. Another reason why I really like POP is the subject genuinely interests me. I find all the stuff that we are learning very useful and applicable to our future. Lastly, I enjoy the self-research part of the class. We aren’t given anything to memorize or review so what you get out of the class is what you give and all the information you find out yourself.

  3. I really enjoyed doing the movie trailer in English class. The movie trailer gave me the chance to do a school project and have a good time with my friends. I really loved that project because I worked really well with Bethany and we had so much fun. We filmed and had a great time all while doing an English project. Our project turned out really well in the end and we got a great mark. The editing was even fun to do because we got to look at all the funny scenes and jokes. That project was probably the most fun project I've done all year and I would love to do it again next year. :)

  4. Although it was towards the end of the year, I really enjoyed Carnival Day. As a leadership student, this was my first year working at the carnival, and going in I was worried that I wouldn’t enjoy myself as much as I had in the previous years. However, I was proven wrong and I had the hands-down best carnival day at St-Thomas yet. All day, I got to hang out with my friends, running fun activities like face painting and ring toss, the weather was perfect and getting to miss class all day was really awesome. The best part though of my day would definitely the water balloons at the end. While I was busy running an activity, my friend snuck up behind me and dropped a balloon on my head, splashing water everywhere! It was so cold but so refreshing and hilarious that I didn’t mind being soaked for the rest of the day. Also, as we were cleaning up the stations, some of my friends came by and we had a pretty epic ring toss competition. Overall, it was one of my best experiences at high school and certainly one I won’t forget.

  5. This year as my elective, I chose POP (Personal orientation Project). I walked into this class with unrealistic expectations, I thought that I would finish the year knowing exactly what I wanted to be and how I was going to do it. The end of year is (quickly) approaching and I still have no idea what I want to do, although I know much more of what I don’t want to do and that is still good. I love this class for many reasons but the main ones are because this class allows you to do a lot of personal projects (hence the name). What I mean is that this class really makes you think about you, your strengths, weaknesses and interests. It forces you to take on a perspective that you rarely take. Also, it is a pretty relaxed class and it is always nice to have a few of those that you actually look forward to! Just last friday I had to go downtown to complete a job shadowing for this class and that experience was life changing! I loved every second of it and I learnt so much! this project put my love for this class over the top. I will never forget my time at job shadowing thanks to POP class!

  6. One thing that I enjoyed this school year was definitely english class. There was never a day where I would dread going to that class. It is always so much fun and Mr. Katz always finds away to make it entertaining and to keep our attention. He gives us fun projects to do, reasonable amount of times to do them. We always have fun projects, activities and novels to read. English class this year is definitely the class I will miss the most in secondary 4.

  7. The one thing out of a couple things that I really enjoyed this year was pop class. I enjoyed it for one reason and one reason only, its because we did absolutely nothing the whole year. I like to think of that class as an extended break time! I spend my pop classes watching netflix, talking and laughing with friends its really great! Even when we got a project, I finished it on the first or second class, because I'm such a good student and then I had then next couple of weeks off because he wouldn't give anything else to us in that time.

  8. This year I definitly enjoyed most of my classes. My favourites were Math and Pop. This year in math I have improved a lot which has been motivating me to work harder. Getting good results back for hard work feels great. I like Pop because it's sorta like a free period all the time. I can use my phone, listen to music and talk with friends while I do an easy assignment. Another reason I like it so much is because Mr. Genre marks really easily so it's kind of impossible to fail anything.

  9. Something that really stood out for me this school years was the dances and carnival day. I love being with all my friends and having a lot of fun. I found the school dances were really fun especially spending time with all my friends. I just love dancing and singing to songs and just being crazy. It was really cool going on the horse carriage ride and watching the fireworks. I also found that carnival day helped me get close to many different people and it was so much fun.

  10. The most fun I have ever had at school so far had to have been the more recent Carnival day. Even though the bouncy castles weren't as big as last year, and food was more expensive, the dance at the end of the day was the best one yet. During the day my friends and I walked around and made so many good memories, and had so many good laughs. The dance was probably the most fun of the whole day. When I walked in, the whole place was opened up, and there was so much space to dance. Outside was so nice, and on top of it all the Habs won their hockey game, and that just made me really happy. The rest of the night was so much fun with just my girl friends, and we all had a great night, aside from a few sunburns.

  11. This school year I really enjoyed the science dissections. It was something I hadn't had the opportunity to try before and something I wasn't sure I was capable of handling. I wasn't sure if at the sight of organs and body fluids squirting out of a dead from would make me throw up or excite me and want to dissect more and more. Our first dissection, the frog, I was more uncomfortable with, just because it looked so real. The next dissection was the heart, where we used a cow heart, cut off all the layers of fat in effort to identify the aorta, the apex, the superior vena cava and it's other parts. I dug hands right in searching through the organ with my fingers trying to feel the parts with my fingers instead of just using my eyes. Our next dissection was of an eyeball where once again I held with my bare hands not minding at all the feel or the fact that I was cutting into an actual eyeball that a sheep once used to see with. I identified the parts easily and quickly because I was using my hands and ended up dissecting it perfectly. Dissecting was something I was never sure I was able to do or not, and turns out I actually enjoyed it a lot! Turns out it was one of my favorite things all year and that I can actually use these skills in my future!

  12. One thing that I really enjoyed this year was science. In the past years you didn't get to choose what type of science you wanted to do, you had to do what was part of the curriculum. But this year you got to pick between general and advanced science. I'm really happy that I picked general because I have really enjoyed doing biology. I find it so cool to know how the body works and how everything works together to let us function. Although now we're doing design plans and technical things which I enjoy less, overall I have had a really good experience with science and I hope to like it just as much in the next few years.

  13. One thing that I really enjoyed this year was finally being able to do things I wanted to do. This year, in class, all of my projects or work has been relatively more fun because teachers opened up to the type of projects where you get to do it your own way. For example in POP class, I was able to do a huge project on finance which I really enjoy learning about. I feel like since we are getting older, teachers don't have to baby us anymore for our projects. I honestly learned the most this year compared to all other school years in my entire life. Since teachers were all lot more open about their projects, every single one of my classes has been enjoyable except two ( not english do not worry ).

  14. A day that I really enjoyed this year, was carnival day. In my past two years at St-Thomas, the carnival day was always amazing, but this one was the best yet by far to me. I hung out with a lot of people that I usually don't hang out with, and I made a lot of new friends. I also did a lot of the activities like the tug-of-war, the parachute, and I also ate a lot of the yummy carnival food provided for us. My favourite thing to eat, was definitely the cotton candy. I hadn't had it in so long, and the feeling of something melting in my mouth was lost until that day. And when the day was done, and I thought the fun was over, I had forgotten about the dance that night! I went to swimming, and invited my friend Tess to go with me. It was honestly unforgettable, and not only because I never usually go to dances. There were fireworks, and they played the habs game. Not to mention, all of my favourite songs played! Overall, it was one of the funnest days of the year in my eyes.

  15. sadly to say school doesn't have anything to appeal to me, but something i was very interested in was the trailer project and carnival day and night. the trailer project is basically one of the only projects i enjoyed ever in my life. i had to film a video and edit and even star in it which are all things i love to do. i got a great mark because i spent around 5 hours editing it and it was worth it.carnival day was great!! i loved it i had so much fun and i'm glad i spent it with all my friends. the dance was one of the best dances i've been to, i had so much fun and danced so much, this year wasn't so bad.

  16. There are many things that I have done this year that I enjoyed, which makes it hard to chose only one. In all of my classes, we have done at least one things that I thoroughly enjoyed, such as in English class when we did the movie trailer project. I found this project so exciting and really loved filming it. Another project that I really enjoyed was in history class when we did the assembly room project. I found this experience to be really enjoyable and educational. There are so many great things that have happened this year and I hope the same happens next year as well.

  17. During this year I enjoyed my birthday. The reason why I really liked my birthday over anything else this year is because this year was the first time since grade 4 that I had a party with my friends. I didn't have friend parties before because they are so much work ; you have to clean the house, order food, do cool things and just be an energetic host for a couple of hours which is way harder then it sounds. This year however I planned my birthday to be as easy as possible, and it worked; my friends and I ate pizza, played videogames and other things teenage boys do, and it was fun.

  18. I enjoyed working at the carnival. Although I had to work all day bringing water back and forth, from the girls bathroom to the baseball diamond carrying a bucket of water and working one shift face painting and two shifts at the fish bowl. I enjoyed it because while I was caring the bucket of water back and forth, I splashed some of my friend and they screamed like little girls and then after, they would follow me like flys trying to get more water slashed on them. I also enjoyed it because my friends kept me company. We laughed a lot we talked a lot. Working at the fish bowl was probably the hardest. We did not have many balls to start with and as the day went by they broke so I had to improvise and tape them back together. We only had five left. At one point I had five people playing it was really hard because my partner left me. I had to run after all of the taped balls. The game was very addicting so everyone played more than one round. At the end I was face painting it was literally the last 45 mins so no one came. I tried to hunt down some of the leadership students that were not doing anything to paint on their faces. I do I pretty good smiley face.

  19. One thing I really enjoyed this year was, carnival day. It was such a fun day, I ran a few stations because I am in leadership. I did the BBQ and the basketball station, I had so much fun, I did the stations with my friends. My favourite part of the day was not the time at school but the time after, I went to my friends house, we went to the movies to see the avengers, then I slept at his house. Overall it was a very fun day. I hope that next year it is just as fun, sadly I will not be in leadership next year.

  20. Sec 3 has for sure been the best school year so far. Sec 1 I barely remember anything from it and sec 2 was just completely horrible. Something I really enjoyed this year was Carnival day. I woke up super happy knowing it was carnival day, I even wore a dress, which is rare :’) My morning was normal because I’m not in leadership, but I did break my braces so yay for me. As soon as carnival started, I raced home to change my outfit. I was already super-hot so I decided to change into shorts and a tank top since I knew what the weather would be like in the afternoon. I even brought Erin, Quarina and Serena food from my house since they’re in leadership and didn’t have a lunch, I call myself the MVP. The rest of the afternoon was an absolute blast. I ate cotton candy, had a snow cone and enjoyed the sun with my friends. That day when I got home, I noticed I had gotten a tan- not a big surprise for me though. A few of my friends came over to my house so we could all go to the dance together that night. I was really excited for this dance because there were fireworks. Honestly, St. Thomas knows how to do everything right and makes these types of special events amazing! The funny thing is at the dance, I missed the beginning of the fireworks because I was too busy inside dancing. Other than that and it being like a sauna in there, I had a great day well spent :)

  21. I think the best thing about this year was POP class. It's such a chill class and it never really stressed me out. We had a project on moving out and we basically had to get the price of everything for 1 year of moving out. I found it so fun because I got to see how much money in 1 year. Also, I loved my birthday because my friends bought me a gift that I totally didn't expect. They bought me white converse which are my favourite shoes. I for sure did not expect it and I couldn't thank them enough!

  22. I feel like this year has gone by extremely fast and so many things have happened but I think that my favourite thing that I did was one of my P.O.P. projects. Pop is one of my favourite classes and we did a project at the beginning of the year involving us planning a vacation. We had to go into groups of five and with a budget, we had to plan a vacation anywhere in the world. My favourite part was when we filmed the project because it was really funny. We chose to go to Florida and in our video, pretended to be travel agents and a family going to that destination using the travel agency. Our first try at filming the video was a complete fail and we had to restart but when we did, I had a lot of fun. We put backgrounds on the tv and sat in front of it to make the illusion that we were actually there. We also added some extra features such as us "riding a roller coaster" and "watching a dolphin show". It was fun to film everything and act like one of the kids on the trip as well as a travel agent. My favourite part was watching the end result because I found it really funny.

  23. One thing that I really enjoyed this year was/is the midterm and final exams. I love those because I know that it means there is a break coming in a week, plus I get to sleep in some of the days before going to school so I'm not tired before the exams. The only downside to the exam weeks is that they're exams which also stress me out because I don't want to fail. That's what I like(d) about this year.

  24. There were many things I enjoyed throughout this year but one thing I really enjoyed that stood out to me this year would definitely be carnival day. I really enjoyed it because there was great food and I had a lot of fun with my friends and after the carnival day I went to the basketball court and played basketball with a couple of my friends and over all it was a great day. Hopefully we get another day like that some time throughout the next couple months of the year just to get the stress off of all the projects that we have to finish and tests that we have to study for.

  25. wow! this school year has gona by so incredibly fast! It's crazy to think that september was so long ago! Overall this was my favourite yesr at St-Thomas for many reasons! Firstly, I got to meet so many new, interesting people that I had never talked to before this year. I find I also got a lot more familiar with some of the faces around the school and got to learn a lot of the names of some of the students in my grade and the grades above! I can't remember what my absolute favourite thing about this year was, but something I really enjoyed was being a senior and therefore being able to leave the school property at lunchtime. I really enjoyed having this privilege because it really did make me feel a lot older and I felt like I had a lot more freedom. During the first couple months of the year, it was almost ALWAYS nice outside and everyday, my friends and I would walk to the park at lunchtime. Not only was it nice to take a walk and get some fresh air and exercise, I also really enjoyed being able to go to the dep and buy candies. I remember the day of the first snowfall, My friends and I went to the park and almost all the girl's mascara was running and it was such a funny scene! during winter, I didn't go out much though because I hate the snow and cold weather. I felt the car to be extremely crowded and stuffy and also incredibly noisy! Now that it's nice out again, my friends and I have started going outside again during lunch and it's just such a relief. I have really started to appreaciate the outdoors over this past year thanks to it!

  26. One thing that I really enjoyed this year was Science class. My teacher is nice if he likes you and not that strict. His tests were always pretty easy and whenever he would explain a topic I would actually understand. Some teachers can explain a topic and I'll not understand it at all but my science teacher always made sure that everyone understood before moving on.

  27. One class that I particularly liked was my cooking class. Many students you ask about why they like cooking class would probably be because of the food. I'm not going to lie, the food is really good and fun to prepare but it is a good class to have because it will be super beneficial later on. The ability to be able to cook is a great thing to have when you get older, move out and are on your own. Eating is a necessary thing to do in your life and in order to eat you need to cook the food. The class also taught me many recipes and tips on how to chop different vegetables, how to read recipes and proper hygiene in the kitchen.

  28. I actually really enjoyed my English class this year! Every year I assume that English class will be like every other year. We read a book that no one actually likes and then we are forced to answer questions on it every night for homework and then we have a huge test on it with a bunch of multiple choice questions! I really don't usually enjoying English class because I find it very boring. But this year was really different. We did a lot more interesting activities and we got to use chrome books. I really liked the idea of Google Chrome and being able to share our work with friends! We learnt so many new things this year from essays to videos and just how too work well in a group! I really liked English class and I am sad that next year it will most likely be back to the same old boring English class!

  29. One thing I really enjoyed this year was cooking class. We always made the best food. Its been fun just being able to hang out for an hour with friends while making something tasty. I literally ate everything. I always work in a group of three which is great because then we get more food each because we don't have to split it with a lit of people. Besides the food, the people in my class make it five times bette. We're a super small class of 16 and everyone gets along. I think that's what adds to the fun. I'm sad that I won't be able to take cooking again but it was great while it lasted.

  30. My favourite thing about this school year would have to be cooking class. In cooking class, we cook a huge variety of meals, desserts and snacks. I found this year to be extremely stressful with all the projects and assignments, but cooking is an easy class and releases my stress. There are no projects or assignments, just cooking and reflections. What I also like is that we are able to choose what we would like to cook and get better at. It was really cool to be in cooking class because I had never been in a class like that.
