We all have many possessions that we cherish.  Some of my greatest childhood possessions I have carried with me to my new house and hope to pass down to my children when they are older; obviously in hope that they cherish these great possessions as much as I did when I was young.  I know that if I lost any of these I would be absolutely devastated.

What one possession would leave you devastated if it was lost or destroyed?  Why is it so significant to you? Explain.

  1. If I were to pick one item that I would be sad about if it got lost or destroyed, I would pick a finger painting that I made when i was about two. This painting is special to me because I made it with my parents and I remember it being really fun. Also, it’s one of the first things that I made myself, and it’s actually not bad! Also I’ve had it in my room ever since.

I understand why you would not want to lose that.

  2. The one possession I would be devastated if it were lost or destroyed is my Minnie mouse ears hat from Disney World. Even though I could always buy another one because they sell millions of them it would not be the same. My hat has my name written on the back and it`s not just a hat it reminds me every day of the amazing memories I had at Disney World 8 years ago. This hat reminds me of the scariest ride ever (the Tower of Terror) that I went on with my dad and my sister when I was only 6 years old. It also reminds me of all the fun activities I did with my family such as, riding all the rides, watching the spectacular fireworks at night and going to the beach for the entire day. By losing this hat I would not only lose memories, I would lose a part of myself.

    1. It sounds like you made a lot of great family memories at Disney World! I also went there several times when I was younger and I too got myself a Minnie mouse ears hat and cherish it as well. I can see where you're coming from in the fact that you would not want to lose it.

  3. One possession that would suck to lose was my first hockey stick. Its an old sherwood that was cut down to size for me when I was 2 years old. I remember when I use to go to the rink as a kid with my dad and my grandpa I used to pick up my stick and attempt to hit the puck. I would hate to lose it because it brings back memories of when I used to play hockey as a kid. Those memories are special to me.

  4. If there were one item in particular that really has significant value to me it would be my charm bracelet. All of the different charms represent a different aspect of myself, and really symbolizes who I am and what’s important to me. Little beads like a reindeer on a snowy background represent all of the family memories I cherished over the holidays and the little skate charm shows my passion for the sport of figure skating. This bracelet has become a part of my identity ever since I got it many years ago and without it, I think a part of me would be missing, leaving me somewhat empty. It is for these reasons that if my charm bracelet were to be lost or destroyed, I would be devastated.

    1. It's really cool how each charm on your bracelet represents something different about yourself. If I had a bracelet like that I'd probably get devastated if I lost it too.

    2. When you showed me you bracelet in class I immediatly noticed that it well reflected you. I find it so cool that you have different charms that represent differnt parts of you and how it shows whats important to you. I really like how you said that the bracelet has become apart of your identity because if I can really relate to that with some of my prized possessions.

  5. One possession of mine that I would hate to lose, would be the first guitar I ever got. It was a 3/4, bright red guitar. I remember the first time I tried playing it. I felt like a real rock star because not only did I have a guitar, the guitar was red! Without that guitar, I would have never even considered trying to play that instrument, and if I didn't learn how to play it, I would have never been able to play the songs that I love, let alone a single chord. I owe a big thank you to that guitar because it's got me more serious about my music, and it helped me discover a new passion of mine, playing the guitar. I learn more and more everyday, now I am one step closer to mastering it.
Thank you guitar, I could have never done it without you!

    1. I remember when I got my first guitar, I wasn't good at it and I was too impatient to learn but I kept it anyways. So I can guess why it would suck for you to lose it.

    2. I completely agree. I feel the exact same way with my grandmothers piano. Its weird how attached we become to the instruments we play!

    3. When my mom passed her electric guitar down to me i was literally like 0_0 because I've been eyeballing it for quite some time and when she finally gave that beautiful piece of art to me i was shocked. I admire how connected you are with your guitar because i have the same connection with mine. i agree that losing it would be devastating. Trust me when i say learning the guitar is a real pain in the behind, but once you've learned to play good songs you will not only feel like a rock star but you will actually BE a rock star!!!!

  6. One possession of mine that i would really hate to lose would be a photo book. This photo book was made by 4 year old me right after my first trip to Disney. It’s really nice because it helps me remember all of my favorite memories with my family at my first trip to the states. It’s not a scrap book or anything like that; it’s pretty much just a Walt Disney World book with plastic folders inside. We took hundreds of pictures on that trip and there was only room for around 50 pictures so I was really choosy on what got put in. So while I don’t look at it anymore and it’s tucked away safely in the back of my closet, it would really suck to lose it.

It means a lot to me because I have had it since I was two years old and second my grandfather bought it for me. I remember that once I couldn’t find it when I was young and I cried for days.

  9. If there was an item that I would be really sad if I lost, it would be my first doll named Pinky. It's just a simple doll that has pink clothes. It's really important to me because I've had it ever since I was born. I once misplaced it and I panicked knowing that I might not see it anymore. A few months later, I found it, and I was so happy. My mom bought it for me because she really wanted a girl so when she found out that she was having a girl, she bought me many dolls. I would only play with that one out of all the dolls she bought me. Since I was a kid, the doll has been a special thing in my life. If I would ever loose it, I will be devistated. I hope to pass it on to my kid if ever get a girl.

    1. It's really cool how you are looking to pass this doll down to your kids so that they can play with it, make new memories with it and enjoy it as much as you did! Maybe it'll even become a tradition to pass that doll down to the next girl in the family! My mother gave me a doll that i absolutely love aswell, so i understand when you say that you would be devastated if you ever lost it because i would be too. A doll, it seems so simple but i totally understand how it could mean the world to you!

  10. The one thing that I would be most devastated to lose would be my hatchet. My hatchet used to belong to my great-grandfather and has been always passed down to the eldest son of the family. The hatchet has a nice case with my great-grandfathers signature inside. The hatchet has a wooden handle and the blade is slightly tinted red. I have asked my father why but he is not sure why. I would be devastated to lose this item since it will make hikes a lot less fun. Hikes are fun because I get to use the hatchet to cut down bark from trees so I can find my way back. I would also feel ashamed because all of my ancestors kept it safe but I would have failed. Whenever I hold the hatched I feel like I am connected to my family. I would truly be super upset if I lost this hatchet.

  11. One possession that I, under no conditions, could live without is my bookcase. Not the bookcase itself (Its a 5 year old wooden one from Ikea), but the books inside. I have spent so many years from about the age of 5 until now expanding my prized bookshelf. I have books from Harry Potter to Robert Munch. These books are some of my favourite keepsakes from my childhood and I hold with them so many fond memories. Other novels on the shelf I read on rotation and are some of my favourite pass times. This is by no means just a bookshelf. For me it is a source of entertainment, memories of my child hood and overall one of my most prized possessions.

    1. I think books are definitely worth keeping, especially ones from when you were younger. You are right that they contain memories from our childhood and I don't know what I would do if one day I wanted to read Robert Munsch and discover my book is not there.

  12. My greatest possession is my pair of earrings. I love these things SO much! I got them when in was around seven years old and have worn them every day since! These seemingly simple pair of earrings mean the world to me because my mother gave them to me. In a way it feels as if I have a piece of her where ever I go. On top of that I feel that they are lucky, I have worn them for every big event in my life. So, if I ever lost them then it would be like cracking a mirror, not only would I lose all my memories but I’d lose my luck as well. I love wearing them so much that that’s why if I ever have a daughter I will give her my earrings so that she can enjoy them and make new memories for herself.

  13. If there was one object that I would be devastated if it was destroyed, it would be my memory box. This box is important to me because it contains many objects from when I was younger. Some items include pictures of my family and me, soccer pictures, my old soccer jersey which was signed from the impact team, memories from my trip to Israel, birthday cards and many more important objects. Whenever a milestone occurs in my life, an object representing it is placed in this box. When I go on vacation, I make sure that something that I have from it is placed in it. My memory box also contains seashells and rocks from different parts of the world such as Cancun, the Red Sea and Nassau. I cannot wait to add more memories to this box.

  14. If there was one object that would make me devastated if it was destroyed, it would definitely be the gold chain and cross i wear every day. When i was born i was given this cross by my grandfather and grandmother as a gift. It means so much to me because it has been with me from the start, when i was born. This cross has helped me through tough times where i was stressing either about homework from school and projects or for that matter, anything that has put me in a bad situation. You might be saying ohh well it’s only a chain how could it help? Well since I am Christian, I have prayed actually many times with this cross on and I really believe that it has made a difference for me, and hopefully the people that I prayed for.

  15. If I were to chose a possession of mine that is simply irreplaceable, it would be my "red bear". He is an orange stuffed teddy bear that i recall getting for my 2nd birthday. At the time, we were the same height, and therefore, it was only common sense to me that we would stay the same age and height forever. My father and I had this fight about what we should name him. I wanted to name him "red bear" despite the fact that he was orange, and my father wanted to name him "orange bear". In the end, my two year old self won, and he's been named "red bear" ever since. He has gone through so many doctors, dentist, and hospital appointments with me over the years, and is probably the closest thing i have to a boyfriend. I hope to one day pass him down to my children, so they can snuggle with him too.

  16. If there was one object that would make me devastated if it was destroyed would be my stuffed animal dog. I got it when I was four years old and it is my favorite toy since then. I remember the first time I went to camp I brought it with me because it helped me feel like I was at home. Since I was four I have brought it with me to every trip I've gone on. I used to bring it with me to sleep with it but now I just bring it because it's a tradition for me. I've brought it to so many places that without it I would like I am missing something. I would be sad because it really meant a lot to me when I was younger and even now. Over the years I have given away many toys, but that is one of a few that I have kept. Hopefully one day I could pass it down to my kids and they can love it as much as I did.

  17. I would be absolutely devastated if I lost my blanket. I've had my blanket ever since I was born and if something ever happened to it, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Even if it has worn down (over the past 14 years), it's as valuable or maybe even more than when I was four, or seven. My blanket is exactly like a best friend; whenever I'm feeling down, I could wrap myself in it and feel better. It may seem childish, but to me, it's as normal as loving a teddy bear, or even a dog! I would be heartbroken if I lost it one day.

  18. If there was one object that I would be devastated if it was destroyed, it would be my piano song book. This book was a gift given to me by my grandfather for my 7th birthday. It is an item i truly treasure because it was a very thoughtful gift and has a story behind it. When i was about 6 years old i decided i wanted to start playing piano which made my grandfather very happy because he also started playing piano at a very young age and developped a passion for it. He decided to take all of his favourite songs, some easy and some more difficult, and got them made into a book. It is a very pretty book and i think the thought behind it makes it so much more beautiful! He gave it to me at my seventh birthday and it is still my favourite birthday present. I have learnt to play most of the songs in the book and i have yet to learn them all. Everytime i go to ottawa (where my grandparents live) i bring the book and still today i enjoy playing songs from the book with my grandfather on his beautiful baby grand piano.

  19. The one possession I would be devastated if it were lost or destroyed is a photo album. I started making this photo album since I was 9 years old (only 5 years), I've been adding pictures to it since then! I have pictures from the past, that have been taken by a few of my family members and myself. The photos are of family vacations, parties, get together's, and just other occasions when we see each for no particular reason. I have an extremely large family because my mom was adopted and was able to get in touch with her biological parents, therefore I have three sides of my own family. Which means that photo album is pretty full so I will have to get a new one soon! This album is filled with family moments, and a few family members that have passed, I never want to forget them! Therefore I would be devastated if I ever lost this album or it was destroyed!

One year my mom was looking on the computer to find another one like him, she said that she was looking to find a friend for him but I knew what it really meant. 23. One possession of mine that I hold dear to my heart and would pain me greatly if I lost or it got destroyed would be my stuffed animal JC. I first received him at the hospital when I was just only born into this world, my father had travelled to the shop in the lobby and had bought the stuffy because it resembled JC, the dog that we had owned at the time. Ever since I got him I have always had him near at night, whether I am actually sleeping with him or just having him in my room, I cannot go without him. The actual JC, not the stuffy, is now in heaven, so this stuffy has great sentimental value for that reason and not only because I have had him since birth. He has been with me through so much and losing him would really pain me, he is irreplaceable.

It's grey and in the right hand corner there is written in blue "88 wildwood" . Last year in december after my grandpa died, it was a very emotional time and I was determined to get a reminder of all the great moments we shared. I remember the times he would wear the sweatshirt and thinking back to them I miss him so much. When we were looking back at his old stuff I found his sweatshirt and broke down and just needed it so badly to feel like he's with me when I wear it. Thats why I would be devastated to lose it or if it was destroyed.

My grandmother gave this to me about a year before she passed away. It is gold, with a stone with the colour of my birthstone, light blue. It has deep sentimental value and it's the reason i don't go a day without thinking of her, especially because it is right there on my finger every so often. I feel that if I were to lose it, I would lose a piece of her I could never get back. I never really got the chance to say good bye, and I would never forgive myself if I lost it like I lost her.

I take it off so rarely that i have a tan line under the ring. I was so close with her that i needed to keep something with me at all times and that's why i decided to keep this ring. 30. One possession that I truly cherish and would be devastated if it was destroyed is a little glass box that my sister gave me a couple years ago. It says sister and is shaped like a heart. It was one of the first meaningful gifts she had gotten me. When I first got the gift I was younger and much clumsier than I am now. I was so worried that I was going to break it that I kept it high on my bookshelf. Just thinking about it made me move it closer to the middle on my dresser. If it ever broke I would feel terrible.

But as I got older and more mature, I understood the meaning of this bangle to her and my family and that if I ever lost it, I would be devastated. Hopefully I don't loose it so I can pass it down to my daughter when she's born and so on. Now that I understand how important this bangle is to me and my family, I won't be irresponsible and loose it, so I always keep it in a safe place for when I grow up.

  35. The person who challenges me the most, is my team mate/good friend, Kiara Morinville. Her and I swim together ever day (sometimes twice a day), and it's easy to admit, that something we both have in common, is how competitive we both are. For example, every practice, we choose to be in separate lanes so we can race against each other. She challenges me before every practice. Let's say, she says she'll beat me at something I'm not very good at; challenge accepted. No matter how competitive and challenging she can get, I love it. She challenges how fast I am, how good my technique is etc. Although sometimes she can get "feisty", let's be honest, I can too.
